Sculpture Shock

Sculpture Shock was an award for nine emerging artists working site specifically in three dimensions in subterranean, ambulatory and historice sites across London which ran from 2013-2016. It was the project that launched theCOLAB programme and was conceived and funded by theCOLAB and delivered in collaboration with what is now Royal Society of Sculptors.

Three winners each received £3,000 and undertook a 3 month residency in a London studio culminating in a surprising spatial intervention in one of three non-traditional spaces.

Each artist’s work was installed in the location for which they were selected (either subterranean, ambulatory or historic), where it remained for a minimum 4-day pop-up exhibition.

Sculpture Shock ends ... its legacy remains!

Immense, deep and wide gratitude to all the artists, partners, staff and volunteers who made Sculpture Shock not just a reality but a hugely impressive success.

There are still copies available of Sculpture Shock: Site-specific interventions in Subterranean, Ambulatory and Historic contexts (ed. Claire Mander, pub. in partnership with Black Dog) for those gripped by site-specific work. Please get in touch with theCoLAB at info@thecolab.art for further information. Each Sculpture Shock artist made a brilliant print which related to their residency/intervention which simply MUST be viewed here!

Finally, thank you to theCoLAB for its continued, sustained and engaging support of the project over its long run.

Long live Sculpture Shock!
