Radical Pairings is new publication edited and published by the National Festival of Making and theCOLAB which explores the National Festival of Making's headline residency and commissioning programme, Art in Manufacturing. The book documents five female artists’ residencies undertaken in 2022 with manufacturers in the North, featuring artists invited onto the factory floor and the work they created in response to it.

Celebrating five exceptional women artists: Jacqueline Donachie, Nicola Ellis, Raisa Kabir, Hannah Leighton-Boyce, and Liz Wilson. ⁠

Art critic and writer Elizabeth Fullerton was invited to document these artists’ residencies, resulting in the essay “Artists and Factories Make Radical Pairings.”⁠

The publication shares new context and insights from Director and Programme Curator, Elena Jackson, Director and Curator of theCOLAB, Claire Mander and Artist and Board Member of the Festival of Making CIC, Jamie Holman. ⁠
